About this event

Presented by:
Elyse Parke, PhD, ABPP-CN

About the Webinar:
Medically complex pediatric populations often have heightened neurodevelopmental vulnerability due to the combined effects of medical, genetic, developmental, and psychosocial risk factors. This presentation will highlight key pathways through which medical complications, such as congenital heart disease, cancer, brain tumors, genetic disorders, craniofacial conditions, and acquired brain injuries can influence outcomes. The presentation will review general neuropsychological profiles and considerations commonly associated with these medical conditions. Clinical case examples will illustrate the application of integrative decision making in real world practice, showing how multiple risk pathways converge to affect neurodevelopmental trajectories. This framework enhances comprehensive, developmentally informed neuropsychological care for medically complex children.

Learning Objectives:
By the end of this activity, participants will be able to:

  1. Identify key medical and developmental risk factors that contribute to neuropsychological vulnerability across a range of medically complex pediatric conditions.
  2. Review general neuropsychological profiles and key assessment considerations commonly associated with medically complex pediatric conditions.
  3. Apply an integrative approach to clinical decision-making through case examples illustrating how multiple risk pathways interact to shape neurodevelopmental outcomes.
